mastered by allan tucker at foothill digital... coming out on vinyl and digital download in the end of september.
the album is named for the old record player in Mjau's house... with pictures, and Normal Illinois is where scott lives.... so yeah. represent scott! the song has nothing really to do with the town Normal, just that we needed a wierd town name from the midwest for the setting for the fictitious character to live and work in...

cool... thanks dude. i gotta check out more lightfoot... i know some, but not enough.
i think the 'compression' sound is probably just the fact that the drummer was using a really huge 24" ride with rivets... there was no compression on the drum channels, i don't think.... maybe just a bit of compression in mastering... or maybe the mp3 shit... but the way that that particular cymbal swells is really 'compress-y'...
thanks for listening,
john

Wow John, great stuff! Totally great extension from the songs on the first album, but different enough to still show lots of growth, too. The first tune is so perfectly naked and up front, and the second one (with the amazing title) has that killer chorus that blooms outward so beautifully. And shit, the steel guitar break is fucking awesome in that one. Can't wait to hear the whole thing.
What are you using for vocals (mic, pre, etc)? They're so present and dry but they still sit really nicely in the mix.
Yeah, so Long Live Phonograph, the world's coolest band ever.
