the drums are pretty stereo to me. the cymbals sound mono, but the toms are definitely panned.

i love the sound! good mix, too. especially the vocal level in respect to everything.

i like lots of attack on snare and kick, so if i *had* to say something, i'd say let them be more 'bitey' and, maybe, less compression?

but, i like it. sounds really really good. even a good room sound, for the 'reverbless' room thing, you know?

tapeop-o-meter = 8.2/10

kinda like pitchfork but cooler.

Wow. Wasn't expecting that. I like the Giant Steps changes towards the end of the verses. It's like Coltrane with a Tonto synth melded with some early King Crimson.

Wacky!

and, you know, listening to it again, i was a bit harsh, actually. i think there's a good and healthy amount of attack on the kit.

sounds great. is this from an album, or is this just a studio experiment?

this is just a thing I do from time to time which is write and record a song and play all the instruments myself with no outside input whatsoever. Just to see what happens.

I'm sort of learning that maybe I work better when I have someone else to bounce ideas off of. But it's a fun exercise. I try not to spend more than a day or two max on each one from writing to mixing. I've done seven or eight of 'em so far. Might have a "record" by the time I get bored of it. In any case it's a good way to learn some things about what happens when trying various things out, and an excuse to put up some microphones.

i guess that would just me singing through this handheld mic:

and a tape Echoplex with a warbly motor, through a Fender Champ (5F1 circuit) clone I built.

:D

I guess the warbling motor on the echoplex kind of "harmonizes" to an extent. :D

whoa, i think this may be my favorite one so far. everything feels like it fits together really well. the drums on your tracks always sound very "alive" to me - it seems likes a lot of people (*cough* gearslutz.com *cough*) are always trying to get this really sterile sound out of the kit and end up with a series of "clicks" and "blips" instead of "crashes" and "booms" like this song. awesome work.

thank you!!!

I like putting microphones on actual drums and seeing what happens. I think I'm learning how to make it sound like drums little by little, as I go.
