I started recording Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon also... but since I'm the new guy on the block, I will defer to you...

But is there any reason there can't be more than one version of a song?
It might be interesting to see how each of us work it out...

No reason there can't be more than one in my book. I'm doing the Humbert Humbert version. Let's see where this goes...

Please compress the files to mp3 before sending them-- it will make my job a lot easier.

Multiple versions will be fine. For the record, I'll be attempting "Play Me."

I'll post these to a page on my website after the 14th. No frills, all thrills.

I'm going for maximum track count on "Sweet Caroline". A few more days of assembly-line overdubbing and then it's time to start culling/editing. This deadline is the kick in the head that we all needed.

Well, if I can get my strat assembled in time, I'm going to lift the drum tracks from a non-paying client's project and arrange "Play Me" to fit.

Good times.

i think something is wrong with my version of Cracklin' Rose...either that or the engineer is a narcoleptic.

bump

"Sweet Caroline" is almost done. Last night I had the guest lead vocalist swing by and we ran off some stripes of three-part harmonies. We are also using a Guyatone WR2 to help set our version apart from the original (as a courtesy to Mr. Diamond, who really deserves nothing of what he's getting from me - really, couldn't be happening to a nicer fella ... sad ...)

Come on, all! May 14 is coming up fast! Let's brighten the brights and darken the darks here! Finish up strong!

Wednesday deadlines are a bitch. I'm hoping to start mine tonight. Hoo-boy.

Did anyone catch the bit on CBS Sunday Morning with Neil Diamond's recent return to the Bitter End in Greenwich Village? Looked like it would have been a cool show to see.

OK-- I spent a couple hours on this late last night and I'm calling it good.

My vocal is iffy, as my whole family is coming down with a cold, but maybe it gives it that Diamond growl?

Anyway, the delinquent client drums sound better than I remember--recorded years ago on a Mackie 8 bus adn Digi001 in his basement. I actually ended up in a band with the drummer later on, so it was kind of like a reunion of sorts. The new tracks gave me a chance to exercise my 5 newest pieces of gear...
Newly assembled Strat: Fathead into the PM1000.
Chinese 51 p-bass: DI through the PM1000
Vox: Fathead into Tascam MX-80.

How's the rest coming?
