Stephen Malkmus Real Emotional Trash
Moderator: cgarges
I think this is Malkmus' best solo work thus far - to me, he's finally come into his own (or convinced me that he can be almost as good as pavement was without being pavement).
And to me, this album's a sleeper - didn't grab me right away, but over time it's become one of my favorites. Kinda like Pavement, actually...

Yep, it's my favorite post-pavement album by far, and is actually getting a lot more play now that it's nice out; it's got a real "springtime" vibe to it. I agree that it's a sleeper; those hooks have very slowly taken over my life...
Great work by TJ Doherty, too, and that place Snow Ghost looks pretty wild!

I can't NOT comment on this thread.
I have been a fan since Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. Something about the guitar solo in "Cut Your Hair" just hooked me. Don't know why. Not sure why it struck a chord with me, but it did.
I haven't heard this new album by Malkmus, but I'm sure I'll get it soon.
I do understand why people don't get/like him, but I'm a fan for life, so I'm not being totally objective.
I did LOVE his first solo album. Poppy AND freakishly off-the-wall. The Ess Dog is a great song.
Ok. Malkmus Love Fest ends here.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I think this is my least favorite of his solo records. It's pretty predictable and isn't anything he hasn't done on previous records. Everything I read made it seem like this was a rockin' record, but that isn't the case. Sounds great, recording quality wise, but songs just aren't there for me.
Still waiting for a Luna reunion
