Much of the early offsping sounded borrowed, although I can't remember them all, 'come out and play' was alot like nirvana love buzz.

First song on the first garbage begins with a ripoff of Only Shallow (my bloody Valentine)

No ideas for the Band of Horses request, but I really like that album

One of my fave examples is U2's "Bullet the Blue Sky" vs. the Nuge's "Stranglehold."

Also, a lot of my stuff comes out like Hendrix' version of "Watchtower" ...

Here's a couple that reminded me of other songs, so i tried mashing them up and in fact they work quite well:

Carole King "Too Late" with Stories "Brother Louie" (esp. Carole's piano added to the Stories song fits right in during the intro)

The Doors "People Are Strange" with The Turtles "Happy Together".. and in my research I found that these two were on the charts at the same time too, so it might just be a freaky coincidence.

And on a similar note, RE: writers/producers redoing themselves: Listen to any Narada Michael Walden intro from the 80s (especially the trademark "vroom!" sound)

The verses on Smash Mouth's "All Star" seem to be a little like Joe Jackson's "Is She Really Going Out with Him". Maybe just the bass playing is similar?

Wow. I bet if you look hard enough - like every single song I've ever written probably sounds like another song. There's only so many ways to play the same notes. That being said ... whether they will admit to liking it or not, everyone has heard the 'I wanna run through the halls of my high school ...' John Mayer song (No Such Thing)

Now go to www.myspace.com/katyperry and listen to the song 'Mannequin'

It is unbashedly the exact same freaking song. The timing is even identicle. I see a lawsuit coming on ...
I will see you there, or I will see you at another time.

Also, Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" always reminds me of Boz Scaggs' "Lowdown" (which came a few years before) with their jazzy, flutey sound and both feature uniquely 'busy' high hat patterns too. :D
