Katy Perry

Post by andrewfoshee » Wed May 21, 2008 8:11 pm

I have no idea where this came from, honestly ... but tonight I ended up at Katy Perry's myspace page www.myspace.com/katyperry thanks to a front page Myspace link and listened to the first song on her player, 'I Kissed a Girl' and ...

It rocks. Or it sucks. I love it. And I hate it. I have no idea who she is and had never heard of her a half-hour ago, but I have listened to that song at least five times since and it kind of kicks ass. I think. Some of her other stuff has an Andrew WK meets Cher meets Avril Lavigne sort of thing going on, which I find both oddly sincere and vaguely repulsive. I can't tell if I hate this or if I fucking love it. Ahhhhh!

What is wrong with me?

and... maybe that's why you're conflicted? maybe your mind is saying no way, but your body is telling you "I like it".

no it's not. That may be why I'm so put off by it. It's 2008 now... when I hear some college aged girl say, "I kissed a girl" these days, all I can think is, "yeah, so?"

There is this Michael Jackson thing going on I can't help but nod my head too. Oh yeah, and that whole lyrical thing that's going on. There's that too.

is it just me, or is that "kissed a girl" song the most obviously autotuned song of all time?

There was a massive thread at G***S**** on that song. The original poster there was really taken with the mix.

Estelle's "American Boy" has been a guilty pleasure for months now. Better song, better singer.

KATy PErry album rocks

Post by timmymacdd » Fri Oct 17, 2008 4:50 am

IT is my favorite album of the last month. ALmost every song is punchy and good, Sounds great on an ipod while oput for a smoke.
You can't write perfect lyrics like that...and perform them into a compressed track to sound so damn good.
It misses the live cool feel but makes up for it with really great style and lyrics.

in my opinion this is how every new album should sound.,...and then later she can do some actual creative good music.....but generally speaking this album is exactly what a non fan wants....a bunch of tracks that sound great on an ipod shuffle.

She also had a CHristian recording deal a couple years back......which in turn really shows her courage and greatness in creative thinking......since being a christian once you are trapped into believing that S*** the rest of your life.....

SO to come out one album later with a song that people think is about gay boyfriends and kissing lesbians is actually lyrically genius.

SO IF you listen really closely and put on your catholic schooldress and try to hear the music as if you were a real christian you might hear the fact that there is actually nothing really wrong with the lyrics-religiouslly speaking.

THEREFORE making the complexity of this bubble gum album really quite good and interesting. and cute........

In the Church crowd it is exciting to think of what life could be like if you weren't a christian....and girls "might" dream of kissing girls because it turns all of their hot "gay" church boys on to see them kissing.......hence a great song title and "feeling" that really drives people MAD that hear it.

I liked it......but it is not in my party shuffle anymore already. I move on fast.

I had no idea until two weeks ago that my friend and coworker of two years, and his assistant were her vocal coaches!

whoever wrote Katy Perry's song wrote: This was never the way I planned
Not my intention
I got so brave, drink in hand
Lost my discretion

It's not what
I'm used to
Just wanna try u on
I'm curious for you
Caught my attention

(CHORUS)
I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

(V2)
No I don't even know your name
It doesn't matter
You're my expiramental game
Just human nature

It's not what
Good girls do
Not how they should behave
My head gets
So confused
Hard to obey

(CHORUS)
I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it

(BRIDGE)
Us girls we are so magical
Soft skin, red lips, so kissable
Hard to resist so touchable
Too good to deny it
Ain't no big deal, it's innocent

(CHORUS)
I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong
It felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it
I liked it
yeah.... Dylan-esque...

I'm sorry.... but, her former christian hangups don't make the lyrics any more "good" or "interesting".
