Coal Miner's Daughter. Wonderful movie that happens to have music in it.

Sid and Nancy is kind of embarassing, but I suppose is a classic.

Spinal Tap shouldn't even have to be mentioned. It's like asking "what should I fill my lungs with to sustain life?"
"I have always tried to present myself as the type of person who enjoys watching dudes fight other dudes with iron claws."

Heavy Metal Parking Lot. 20 minutes of pure American gold.
We Jam Econo was nice... I found it really touching.
Calle 54 is some hot shit.
Hype! (the Seattle grunge movie) has some classic moments.
Krush Groove!
Anyone seen FUBAR? Kind of a Canadian punk rock Spinal Tap.

For regular feature films with incredible music, well, every Sergio Leone movie.
The Third Man.
Scorcese does a great job with this too.
And then of course there's the "Sister Christian" scene in Boogie Nights.

I was gonna say Sid and Nancy, but I thought y'all would laugh at me  . I like it, though... bastards!

+1 on Amadeus, and thanks for reminding me.

How 'bout Candy Mountain? And while we're going down that road I'll throw in Big Time (did anybody say that already?).

Anyone ever see 'Unknown Passage' - the Dead Moon documentary? I've been wanting to check that out for a long time, but have never run across it.

True Stories (co-written by and starring David Byrne) is one of my favorite movies of all time. This movie was responsible for me being OK with the idea of moving to Texas. Byrne is absolutely perfect, and the song John Goodman sings at the end is great.

Another quasi-musical I don't think anybody has brought up yet is Dancer in the Dark. People seem to be really polarized in their reaction to it, but you have to agree the music really carries the film and is quite emotionally powerful.

Some movies that come to mind that are not about music really, but have great soundtracks that are integral to the pacing and arc of the film (not just tacked on as an afterthought):

Juno
Pulp Fiction (duh!)
Reservoir Dogs
Pi
Marie Antoinette
Trainspotting
Until the End of the World
Lost in Translation
Ghost World
Napoleon Dynamite
anything by Wes Anderson

After Hours, an excellent 80's-era Scorsese comedy has a great soundtrack.

I forgot "Bird," that Clint Eastwood Charlie Parker biopic. That and "Amadeus" are my two favourite cinematic takes on musical genius.

But since we're starting to cite better-known stuff I'll throw down "Help" and see if anyone wants to see me and raise.

How I forgot Rocky Horror, I'll never know. I sort of arrived late on the Rocky Horror caravan, but I'm totally hooked.

shot mostly on location, too.

my senior year drama teacher's husband, Matt Posey, played the manager at the electronics factory...i think Byrne runs into him later on at the mall, too.
