couple of tunes

Post by ampguy » Mon Jun 23, 2008 11:10 pm

the difference is in how the guitar was recorded, which one do you like better?

this first

or the second

i think you're onto something here.

can you do another one where you tuned the guitar first?

I'm not sure I get what you are saying. Can you point to a segment in either clip where you think the guitar is out of tune?

in the first clip your G string is slightly out relative to the open low D, and gets worse throughout.

In the second one, your G and your B (at least) are waaay flat, from the get-go.

This is one of my fav. Neil Young songs. If you are going for his acoustic sound on Harvest Moon, its on the way with the plate verb and all, but your guitar is just too rattly to pull it off. Not enough body, try muting more with your strumming hand on the downstroke.

Or you can tell me to fuck off, you're playing it like you like to play it. But please keep your guitar in tune.

Are you using a heavy pick and gripping it really tightly?

Interesting, I may have to check the tuning with an electronic tuner.

This version is using both of the acoustic guitar recording setups.

Ampguy - would you say you're on a Neil Young kick lately? As an artiste, what do you feel you bring to Neil's work that is new and fresh?
