Heart's "Magic Man" as a Production and Arrangemen

I know there have been a lot of great songs that you couldn't go wrong with for modeling production, arrangement, use of instruments, vocals, and overall sound, etc. "Magic Man", however, has always struck me as a recording that has everything. Ann, Nancy, the band, and the production/engineering team threw everything but the kitchen sink into this song, in my opinion. "Barracuda" is phenomenal, too. Those chicks and their great band rocked like Zeppelin.

Someone else was recently raving about Katy Perry's (hopefully I spelled her name right?) "I Kissed a Girl". I mean no offense, but IMHO "Magic Man" blows that song away. I have heard it two or three times and it is good, but it doesn't grab me like the Heart chicks did - regardless of the fact that they were recorded about a hundred years apart, give a decade or two..........or maybe a few more. Guess I had better put my helmet on and prepare to be dumped upon by those disagreeing.

How the hell can one compare "Magic Man" and "I Kissed a Girl". That's like comparing apples and oranges. And not even that, since apples and oranges are kind of similar. That's like comparing apples and Scientology.

And I'll bet Katy Perry's bass player isn't man enough wear anything like that.
It is kind of an odd comparison, though. Something from that era that would be comparable would be like Marie Osmond or something.

Well, one was that he played drums for Heart (and was a badass) and two was that he had a fling with Nancy Wilson.

Love that Heart video btw--good performance.

Just as an aside, I love it when a singer overshoots a note and you can tell by her face that she knows she overshot it, and she knows her band knows it. Awesome.

15 or more years ago i would've felt bad for that singer, but these days i would go "Whoa, a singer with a good sense of pitch!".
