The inevitable Chinese Democracy thread
The entire record is available for streaming on the "band's" official Myspace page. Admit it, the curiosity is killing you.
The album release is great timing, actually. It's the perfect soundtrack to multi-billion dollar government bailouts. They captured the exact sound of pointlessly throwing insane amounts of money into an all-engulfing, cavernous pit.
I think Axl got into a fight with ProTools... and got the shit kicked out of him.

Rolling Stone gave it 4 stars!

rolling stone is apparently retarded. if it was a 4 stars out of 50, maybe.
it...
is...
AWFUL.
the recording is just uneven and stale. i mean, i can't even tell what the hell is going on. assuming these recordings we're listening to actually do span 11 years, i guess it sounds a little more cohesive than one would initially think.
but on the same hand, if it took 11 years to make than a) the songwriting should be better and b) none of the recordings should sound like shit. there are some horrible edits where it's very obvious that two drums takes were spliced in.
and things like that showing up in such a "meticulously crafted" work are just lazy IMHO.

I dunno, I was surprised at that review myself. But I haven't heard the music.
I feel like there is no way the record can be "worth the wait" or live up to anything anyone's expecting of it.
Hell, when it took me 5+ years to get my solo record together I was terrified that people would say "you spent 5 years on that?" And I don't have Axl's money!

Hey now! I have to say, I really loved the songs on Two against Nature, though I did think they "got into a fight with ProTools... and got the shit kicked out" of them on that record. It's such a shame because I thought those songs were were great but strangled by the production.
sorry, back to axle. . .

Just too long of a wait from a band that was just too massive. Of course, if L.A. stripper rock comes back in 30 years and Axl turns cuddly and bedridden by then, maybe he could pull a Brian Wilson and try it again.
Here's my formula:
1) Original line up (with Matt Sorum)
2) Brendan O'Brien (it's G'n'R...Ethan Johns probably hasn't done enough coke to handle this task)
3) Two months tops to write, record and mix the new album.

About 30 Seconds...
I listened to about 30 seconds of two songs...If you liked them and that sort of thing, then you might like this.
If you're like me and thought they were shite back then, this new CD isn't any different. A turd.
...and I'm really sad that little Tommy Stinson has been involved...
