Used Ableton Live, Grace m101 and EV RE20. Enjoy. The clarinet parts came from my friends at their house yesterday. Used iphone to record clarinet parts. Seriously.

Since it's well-known that they were faking it to a recording (they couldn't keep those instruments in tune in the cold), it's doubly hilarious. This is really the live recording, isn't it?

Yeah, let's just say I was in the right place at the right time with a Zoom H2. Scratch all that stuff about "I did it" and EV RE20 and all that.

This is awesome, esp. considering I really freaking hate "Simple Gifts."

Brilliant. I especially like the long uncomfortable Cage-ian silences in between all the blurts and scrapes.

Best regards,

Thank you! Apparently, John Williams is an alien who has extracted musical taste from most Americans...

Holy cats - somebody just commented over at the video: "According to Yo yo ma in an NPR inverview, they greased their bows so as to produce silence, and the piano was modified so the hammers wouldn't strike."

This is anecdotal information, of course, but certainly if it is true it makes the whole saga more interesting. Frankly while I was watching and later while dubbing it looked like Itzhak was all over the place with his bow, but that's prolly just his own idiosyncratic technique. I think any decent music teacher would be busting Itzhak's hind end over that bowing, though, telling him to get back on the "Chrysler Highway" ...
