Any TapeOp people doing their own videos too?

Post by asmara » Sat Jun 20, 2009 9:18 am

Please link to your band's video if you meet the following criteria.
wrote or co-wrote the original music.
Recorded it all yourself
and filmed edited your own music video.

Just looking to see how many audio heads also produce visual stuff.
Hope I get at least a few responses to this one.

(made a mistake, wrong index/could the moderator shift this in TOMB Listening Topic?)

With my son's band we do some live footage mashed up with whatever, and sync studio music.

We sorta go with the philosophy "If you can't act, don't do it"

RodC- nice video. I am assuming that most of this was done using historical footage that was edited and mixed to the song? Thanks for sharing.

Which one did you watch, there are several?

Most is from public domain footage.

I forgot the song title. It was at the top of the page. Maybe the viewer cycles through dif. songs. It had a very old car at the beginning and some carnival rides and school setting shots.

That was blind. I'll put together some descriptions...

Blind - This song is about a man's struggle with mental illness.

The footage comes from 19 different sources. The footage of the adult in the mental hospital is a totally different film than the one featuring "his childhood"

Why Should I/ Bloodlust
This is 2 songs, "Why Should I" is a short intro. These were put together with 8 different sources and some live footage shoot with an old night shot feature. The puppet footage fits Why should I really well. Blood lust is a song about a detective tracking down a killer, so some old Dick Tracy footage from 3 different films was used, mashed up with an awesomely bad movie "Blood Lust" There is a zombie in it that looks exactly like Dave Grohl. Robert Reed really gave a stunning performance (Not) in this little gem.

Black Dawn

This is probably one of my favs. This song is about "wana be Renegades" and the absurd way the world and Hollywood has became a fake haven for these types of ppl. So to show the world what real renegades are all about, we turned it into a tribute to the REAL flying tigers and their leader Clair Chennault.

Trash Sick

This features live footage of ITV at Skatopia 2008 mashed up with about 10 different old cartoons. Basically makes a statement of how mankind thinks they have really came a long way, but hasn?t achieved much really. The grim part of city living.

End of it All Part I & Part II

This is some live footage shot with an old Sony Hi8, we like to use it for some true old video looks. Mashed up with "The Last Man on Earth" I?m sure you all know the history of this cool old film. It was I think the 2nd film made based on the story that eventually was retold with the newer remake "Legend"

The first part is basically all film mash up, they don?t play this track live.

You will notice a lot of the footage is is different speed, sorta subtle.

Disorder - This song was from an album about 2.5 years ago. This is the only one that only featured footage from one source. "The Hangman" It really fit the song, but didn?t present %100 of the true meaning, but filled a lot of the sorta side stories in the song. The main emphasis of the song is fake people. Those who think they have lived a glorious life, but really aint done shit, but they want the rest of the world to believe in them.

This wraps up most of the video with studio sound; there is a ton of live stuff up there as well. We have a few more in the works.

um.... this should be good for a laugh or two. hope you don't have epilepsy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTePIfyNyWU

so i did this a couple years ago, it started as an experiment in human stop animation, i got my roommate Graham to help me shoot the footage that eventually turned into the "guy floating past the doorway" shots. so i had that lying around, and then i decided i should make a song based on that (and because Graham really likes metal) and then more video based on the resulting song.

i originally put it together for a local short film festival type thing, for it's screening i handed out about 30 kazoos to the audience, which everyone played at the "everybody solo!" section of the video. it was quite the site to see and hear.

enjoy.
the tape is rolling, the ones and zeros are... um... ones and zeroing.
