"documentary"?
Autoluminescent. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2015298/

I watched it early in the pandemic when I was bingeing on music documentaries. It was probably on either Amazon or Netflix.

I used to trust IMDB ratings very much but after they had ranked some music 8.8 points and I bought the album that happened to be real trash, I now first get to Mp3Juice and download MP3s clips for my own and unbiased evaluation. If that concides with IMDB - fine, I go and buy the album. But if not, at least I don't waste my scarce money then.

So the other day I was grading papers and typed BECK ODELAY into the 27" iMac in my classroom. For some reason his 2002 album SEA CHANGE started playing. I hadn't heard it before. I have listened to it twice now recently.

Went to see Gang of Four tonight--still damn good, and the guy who replaced Andy Gill even has a similar voice. Sara Lee on bass, as was the case first time I saw the Gang.

I think I read Gof4 is now Burnham and King and Sara Lee?

EDIT: wiki says it's Slint's David Pajo on guitar.

Elseweb I wrote:

I did listen to RTF the other night, and Coltrane, Miles, Scofield and similar most nights.

Simone, Ornette, Martino, Adderly, Handy and Monk, Mary Halvorson and Abbey Lincoln have all been played in the last week or so.

'Trane's Ascension is fucking weird, tho'.

I just finished listening to The Flying Burrito Bros. Best of ...

Last night was 'Trane's Traneing In, Detective's Live and the remaster of Ten - amazing production and writing and playing and singing, the latter - much different than the original mixes.

Sun Ra, "Omniverse", one of those things that pops up on Bandcamp now and then.

Also some old "Destroy All Monsters" Detroit garage rock - YouTube has been putting up old Godzilla movies.

I've watched bits of it--had to see Lee Morgan. Had to watch Chester Himes because I always enjoyed his novels. I need to revisit & watch some more stuff.

I've been on a week-long kick with Tom Rosenthal's Dennis Was a Bird. Really beautiful record.

Lord Sutch... or Screaming Lord Sutch as it may be.

a buddy turned me on to this. He has it on vinyl but before going over to his place to listen, I found it on Youtube. If you don't know, it's got John Bonham, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Noel Redding, Nicky Hopkins --- I mean it's gotta be good right? OMG, what a cluster f%$k. Well, ok, there are a couple cool riffs but the singing (screaming) is less than average, and at times it's just a complete guitar wank fest (I think someone yelled "everybody solo!"). And Bonham is on most of the tracks and holding it down but nothing spectacular really. Apparently there was some controversy over this recording that they thought was just demos? So there is a lesson, if you are going to hit record, make sure you play well....
