I just have to mention this...

I posted my friend Dave Hartley's Nightlands project here in this thread. Check it out a page back if interested or in my signature below.

Yesterday Pitchfork featured "300 Clouds" from Nightlands "Forget The Mantra" in their Forkcast feed. I just got off the phone with him (he's on tour with the Buried Beds right now) and asked him how this happened. He told me that they contacted him about the record asking his permission to post about it. I know that he is currently in talks with a rather big Indie label in regards to putting out the record, so I assumed that things developed from there and that the label contacted Pitchfork for marketing. This is not the case. Pitchfork contacted Dave themselves having found the record on Bandcamp. So, I guess that we can now assume that Bandcamp has the ears of larger music blogs and that these blogs are priding themselves on finding things on their own.

Just thought that this needed to be heard in this thread. Check out the "300 Clouds" Forkcast post at http://pitchfork.com/forkcast/14703-300-clouds/

I like Bandcamp. I just don't quite understand how they do what they do without charging folks for the service. I have some stuff on CDBaby, but that was fairly expensive. I can do the same on Bandcamp free...don't know how they do it. I also have lots of free songs on bookofkills.com/jimshelley.us.

15% seems entirely reasonable.

I would gladly pay a reasonable monthly fee to Bandcamp if they decided it was a neccesity.
