Synth Brittania - BBC synth pop documentary

Post by CraigS63 » Sun Jan 10, 2010 8:03 am

I watched this via Youtube a few days back, great stuff. On Youtube, search "synth brittania", it should show a 9 or 10 part series. Gary Numan, Depeche Mode, Human League, Heaven 17, etc.

Watched on DVD, it was pretty ok.

I liked when somebody said that punk rock was only 3 chords, but that was too much work, holding down 1 key on a synth was easier!

These videos are amazing! The Kraftwerk interview is great as is the Gary Numan. Very good to see some OMD and Ultravox.

Thank you for posting the links!

Thanks for posting this! As an (American) guitar player, I've been vaguely aware of these bands for years, but basically slept on some good music. Suprised at how heavy some of the Gary Numan stuff was, in particular.
Loud guitars, award-winning songwriting, and visits from the devil.
Check it out and pick up a free EP here.

I've been following Gary Numan fairly continuously since 1979 or so, he's still putting out good stuff, but he's kind of on a Marilyn Manson/Nine Inch Nails thing lately.

I didn't realize the singer from Yaz (or is it Yazoo in the states) was a woman!

It almost sounded like the Kraftwerk tour was the "Beatles on Ed Sullivan" for a lot of those bands.

Yeah, I should probably be venting on some "british synth band" forum, oh well.
