"Sound Opinions" Anyone??

Post by tonewoods » Fri Jun 04, 2010 10:59 am

Hi all...

Anyone out there listening to "Sound Opinions"?

Based in Chicago, Sound Opinions is hosted by Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot, and I think TapeOppers might be interested in their show if for no other reason than their take on the music business, which rings true to these ears...

Some shows I really enjoyed were with Jon Brion, Tony Visconti, Wilco, Nick Cave, Neko Case, The Decemberists, and a ton of others...

They are all archived at the site for live streaming....

Here ya go....

That is a great show.

Is DeRogatis gonna keep doing it?

(He retired recently as newspaper critic to take a teaching job ...)

Yeah, that show used to be on WXRT in Chicago. Glad to see they're getting a broader audience with NPR. I listen when I can.

As far as I know DeRogatis has no plans to leave. His sign-on mentions his new position at Vocalo.org.

I'm on their message board. Always used to listen to it on XRT, I forget to listen it to NPR.

I don't always agree with their taste in music, but I like that they regularly discuss the music business (as the OP said) and what developments mean for musicians and fans: things like livenation, ticketmaster, emerging trends in music distribution, illegal downloading, bands self-releasing on the internet, etc. It's a really well rounded show.

He's going to keep at it, as far as I've heard. I think he quit because he is seeing the larger picture of the decline of print media.
