Help Me Find The Name of a '90's Foriegn Operatic Group

Post by mechanicalmastering » Sun Sep 12, 2010 10:32 pm

Desperately trying to track down the artist(s) responsible for an obscure song that I used to hear while at hold when I used to do call center work. It sounded a lot like The Cocteau Twins, only strikingly resembled the original Star Trek theme. Seemed almost foreign, like it was a variation of world music. Big drums, (mostly toms) and a woman singing like the blue chick in 5th element. The production sounds like it could be anywhere between '93-'02, but most likely around '96.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Awesome. That's not it, but I was about to look for them because I heard one of their songs on the Baraka soundtrack. What beautiful music! VERY close, but what I'm thinking of sounds less sorrowful, more liberating + upbeat, positive, and kind of retro sci-fi if that makes any sense? Thanks!

You're not thinking of Clannad, are you? It seems like their stuff was all over TV ads for a while in the 90s.

I'm afraid not, but thanks Garges! (this is lightandmind BTW)
The closest thing I've found is about 30secs into the original Star Trek Theme:

Only slower, more melodic & filled with the type of toms/percussion that is typically found in World music. It's so good, I'd love to hear it again! ThanX Dude.

Was it the Star Trek theme? There's a version of it over on www.aprilwinchell.com that has Nichelle Nichols (the original Uhura) singing it. It's about half way down the page under "celebrities who insist on singing"
