Yep, third time through making more connections with the lyrics/what the songs are about, makes the little switch in the head click. Par for the course with me and Frank.
Nice packaging on this sucker, dual 45 rpm discs.

Record Store Day 2019.. After taking care of some things this morning I got there a good hour after the store had opened and avoided any initial moshing. I had talked with the guys there the prior weekend so knew they had ordered 10 copies apiece of Franks's first couple solo album reissues.
I go through the doors and the checkout line is winding up and down several store aisles. I made my way over to the RSD racks and..by my count there were still 10 issues of each in the racks. What is wrong with these people? :suspect:

I for one am glad to have this pair of flashy new color versions to save the O.G.s some wear time. For those who are curious, they both sound great, no issues.

I don't mind the wait in line at these, usually get to hang with some interesting like-minded knuckleheads for a bit. Some of whom were nice enough to share some fine brewed beverages. I think morning beer might have to be a thing once in awhile.

Thanks. Yep, I was quite enamored of his great lyrics, great off kilter song writing and the guitar playing ( the Lyle Workman era in particular initially, but then the Rich and Dave stuff too) Just kind of ended up compiling the things I found interesting in one place.

from page one, if i may quote myself:

"Great music with unexpected changes and abstract free associated lyrics that make connections in exiting ways are a strong draw for me, being able to express penetrating insight (some of which is undoubtedly provided by the listener) and emotion through superficially bizarre material has always been one of his major talents. The man can turn a phrase. Robyn Hitchcock and Kurt Cobain come to mind in this regard as well."

That's a really good record.

Besides the live stuff, I think I like The Catholics stuff best, but he has so much awesomeness.

It is! Hoping Dog in the Sand, Black Letter Days and Devil's Workshop get their vinyl debuts soon as well. Wouldn't be surprised if they came out in the near future.
Demon Records has been real busy with Frank issues and re-issued this year with Bluefinger, Oddballs, Cult of Ray, and according to this Amazon.UK link, The Seuss coming out on a 45rpm 12inch later in the year.

FYI, any Lyle Workman fans might want to check out his solo album. Symphonic Prog. "Ultra fusiony Mahavishnu but better executed and more exiting"

Something old, something new.
O.g.s on the left.
2013 Oddballs.
1996 Cult of Ray.

Haven't played and compared yet.

J Mascis was around at the same time. He’s my neighbour now and I’ve known him since I was 18. He was already doing music with Dinosaur [before they became Dinosaur Jr.] then. He was kind of a model for me, ...

J is basically straight edge, but could you imagine a drunken conversation between them?

Announcement for new vinyl box set of Frank Black and the Catholics six album output for pre-order.

(as of 4/29/2022 per the linked above pre-order offer) $163.79 - 10% ($16 if you give them your cell phone number and an email)=$147.41 plus tax and w/free shipping.

So we're talking basically $21 per record and $21 for the booklet and box before tax.

The order page lists the box set as having seven albums. Along with the box and a 32 page book of liner notes and photos, It actually comes with six albums, with one of which, Black Letter Days, pressed as a double lp.

Of the six albums included, three have had vinyl releases previously. Hopefully the three remaining albums will be released individually :

Dog In The Sand, Black Letter Days and Devil's Workshop.
