What's your funeral song?

Post by mechanicalmastering » Wed Nov 24, 2010 10:05 am

Me and my friends used to joke that if one died before the other, then they would play The New Kids On The Block's "Hangin Tough" at their funeral.
"He always loved that song"

The song that I would like to have played at my funeral is The Cocteau Twin's "Eperdu"

Just after they set the Viking longboat bearing my body alight, F-16's will fly overhead nearly drowning out the strains of The Rainbow Connection.
I make a living as an electrician, not recording in the basement.

It's so cheezy it's probably flame-worthy, but I really want Amazing Grace at my funeral. Not on the freakin' pipes though. Maybe a New Orleans take on it. And then straight into a set of rockin' New Orleans brass band stuff.

At my friend's memorial service in college, this sax player got up when people were "saying a few words" and he said "I've never been able to really express myself with words, but I do express myself through music. So, if people don't mind I'd like to play the sax." It was really beautiful and everybody knew exactly what he was "talking" about.

Finally, at my Grand mother's funeral. Roswell Rudd (Trombonist - My grandmother's nephew) played "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" at the grave side. Perfect.

What's that song, "my maserati goes 185?" That one.

Might not work, unless you're into irony, cause the title is, I think, "Life's been good to me so far."

Not until this very moment did I ever want a "Like" button more than I do right now.

for some reason I've always wanted "Here comes the sun" (Beatles, for you ones) at my funeral.

Not sure why, maybe 'cause like life, its both beautiful and sad at the same time.

I keep trying to think of something else but keep coming back to this. I don't know if I'd make my funeral attendees sit through the solos (not that they're not great), but the composition pretty much says everything that'd need saying.

My genuine answer would be the Beatles' "I'm Only Sleeping" (not just for laughs, it's really my favorite song).

But I can't stop thinking of this one...

Henry Mancini's theme from "The Great Impostor." It would just set things off in a Wes Anderson sort of way.
