New Mix Off Site! Help us get it going!
I've created a new site, dedicated to mixoffs, and we're looking for people willing to post some tracks for others to mix. If you'd like to share, please do!
I've posted tracks to a couple of songs, and we have a few other contributors so far, but the site only went live a couple of days ago, so it's still pretty sparse!
I hope this will become a great resource for people learning to mix, to exchange ideas about concrete mixing techniques, and to hear different takes on their own music.
Come visit, and help make this a great place!
http://mixoff.org
Thanks!

Yeah, I think people will learn more by doing than by reading about it! Or rather, having something to try out, and hearing how someone else's use of some technique sounds, and being able to replicate it themselves.
The other great thing about mixoffs is that you eliminate tracking as the source of differences between different results. You can listen to someone's amazing mix, get the tracks yourself, and see that the raw tracks aren't anything special, really.
I love mixoffs, hopefully there are enough other people out there who feel the same to get it off the ground!

Very cool. Alot of people always ask to compare mixes and get feedback, so this could be very useful.
on a side note....
Glad to see another Phoenician into home and location recording. I wish my rig was a little more portable, but i had fun recording a band at Trunkspace a few weeks back. I definatley enjoy the blog on your site and glad to see you expanding with the mixoff site.
cheers!

Cool. I saw you there. my computer won't play back stuff through my Motu 828mk3, so I'll have to listen to your remixes later.vvv wrote:I reg'd!
I love they have really amateur multitracks there, those are more challenging to remix, and also leave more room to do whatever you want with them. Sure beats having to do that on a "pro" session...
Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.
I think it's a great idear for both the project people and the web-mixer.
And even for the listener - mebbe most especially, in that I'm a fan as well as whatever else I am.
It'll be fun reviewing the other mixes.
Already encountered that cool "Man About a Dog" Exile-sounding thing.
I D/L'ed the folk thing, not my stylee at all - it's gonna be fun!
