Opinions on this mix (mono!)

I think I really prefer mixing/listening in mono, not a popular opinion I know, but I'd like to know what yall think of this mix!

I'd like to hear how you decided to use reverb for different instruments. There's a lot of depth in there.

What I especially like is some of the instruments, like the flute-like organ at the end, have a slightly sharp tonality. In mono that "out of tune ness" creates space. I'd like to hear more. It makes me wonder about putting a slightly sharp instrument dead center in a stereo mix.

Cool!
That "flutey organ" is actually multitracked flutes! there is also tracks of bowed upright bass, 12 string guitar, and heavily compressed glockenspiel at that point.

I basically mixed/eq'd everything to the levels I wanted, then added reverb/delay what have you if something stuck out a little too much to me.
I used a LOT of verb on this! :)

I like everything about it except the drums.

Purely aesthetic -- I think I real drummer would work so much better in this song. It sounds modern and stiff (early 90s maybe?) which clashes against the rest of the song, which sounds old and spooky (in a good way).

What do you mean by a real drummer?
That's kind of a weird thing to say.

I assumed the drums were programmed. I guess not?

Nope! :)
And they were recorded with one mic.
As spooky as I could get them!

That dry snare is very machiney I guess!

I agree that the drums are a bit dry and small. It's also very middley. The vocal, vocal reverb and guitars are all fighting for the same space.

just listening on computer speakers, but i like how the dry drums contrast with the more atmospheric strings. i don't think everything needs to be in the same space, so to speak.

great song and arrangement! really nice and dark.
