I remember recording the basics for that at Pogo in Champaign.... Mark Rubels place.
I also remember doing all the overdubs for that one back at westend in KC.
I used a Rockman analog delay half rack thingy for the delay on the volume swell guitars at the beginning.. random memories creaking through the cobwebs here.
I remember me and Paul taking a minute to get his dunlop tremolo pedal timed nicely for the bass chop that starts the song. We had two tape machines locked together for that record for almost every song. I toured playing those songs a lot, but left the band before the record came out, so they put Josh's picture in there. Starless. I hadnt thought about that record in years. Thanks for the random memory jog!
Whoever did this cover has the feel at the beginning interpreted so weirdly!!! I never really heard it that way.. the way the pulse relates to the guitar and the vocal... we always played it with a bit more swing. awesome.

Being a HUGE Shiner fan I always told myself I was going to record a cover and my thought was to do something weird with this exact song.

You found the right guy to sing. He even sounds a bit like Epley...

awesome :)

this group is 3 guitar students, and a bass student.

ages 17-20.

the singer is now in college. started as a jazz guitar major....turned it to music education with a focus in bass......changed the focus to voice.

his voice has become quite the instrument in the last 6 months!

He does sound a bit like Alan on this. Fun.
The guitar tone is clearly influenced more by HUM than Shiner... ;)

Sweeeeet.

Glad to see some Shiner love still out there and kids picking up on that vastly underappreciated band. I discovered them just as they were splitting and still kick myself that I never got a chance to see them live.

Quite possibly still my favourite rock band ever, and Paul most definitely had my favourite bass tone on Starless - nad rattlin' awesomeness.

Spread the word.
