Miles Davis - In a Silent Way
Just got the complete sessions for this record and i'm amazed. Wish more people did the "ambient jazz'' type sound, so mellow and relaxing yet stimulating and electric.
i love this record, anyone else?

I know this is kind of unhip, but my favorite electric Miles period is the late 70s, early 80s stuff with Al Foster, Tom Barney, Mike Stern, Bill Evans, Sco, etc. I bought We Want Miles and Star People when I was in Korea because they were out of print in the US at the time. I LOVE those two albums.
In A Silent Way is a really beautiful album, though.

/\ I love his fusion stuff too. Herbie Hancock's as well.
In A Silent way is great. I did an arrangement of the song "In a Silent Way" for guitar, vibraphone and keyboard and it was really fun to play.

Love that record, and will try to run down the new release...
Funny listening to all the tape edits on the original LP...
Do they include those edits on the re-release, or just let the tape roll??
Love playing that intro piece too--great jam tune...

I adore this era of Miles Davis. In a Silent way is probably my favorite Miles record of all time. Panthalasa, the Bill Laswell mix translation of In a Silent Way, Bitches Brew, and On The Corner is also a total masterpiece.
I'l totally going to add this expanded version of IaSW to my XMas list!

yeah they've got one live rehearsal version that is one take, some bonus tracks are like that too. some tracks are multiple takes on that one song as in they kept the tape rolling as they tried over and over again, pretty cool to see the work in the studio and hear the process and how it matures.tonewoods wrote:Love that record, and will try to run down the new release...

>>>>Herbie Hancock's as well.<<<<
In a similar vein (late 60's/early 70's funky acoustic proto-fusion), Herbie Hancock did the soundtrack album for the original "Deathwish" movie. I don't remember any of the music now, but I remember thinking "this is cool." I'll have to go look it up now. Probably long out of print...
