Stonegaze (that is to say sludge stoner rock-shoegaze)

Post by Tex Adams » Tue Jan 17, 2012 11:36 pm

frankly if someone told me they were doing "shoegaze" anything I wouldn't be interested, but I do really dig the bands and sounds associated with that name.

so now I'm trying to do a sludge-shoegaze project. (or stonegaze as true widow calls it)
I'm really happy with what I've got so far

Well, I'm not sure how to respond to a "poll" about your music...

I did listen. Interesting.

I like the sounds you've acquired. Not sure if I like the message (mostly because I don't know what it is; the vocal is really buried in the mix, but I'm assuming that that's the uniform effect you're going for).

It reminds me of David Bowie or Lou Reed singing with Coheed & Cambria, then playing the resultant recording back at the wrong (too slow) speed.

yeah I tried to remove the stupid poll... it didn't work.

I feel that as soon as music has a statement it becomes art. I play music though, I'm not an artist.

but if you find it interesting, hey at least that's something. thanks.

i like the guitar sounds you're getting and feel the vocals are done pretty well for this kind of style...

BUT, i wouldn't really think of this as being particularly 'SLUDGEY'... when i think of something sludgey, i'd be more inclined to think some of the stuff on southern lord http://www.southernlord.com/ like sunn o))) or even more sludgey like greymachine http://www.avalancheinc.co.uk/greymachine.html but, i'm coming more from industrial and noisey music.

your stuff reminds more of a straight-up sort of psych rock sound, more recently a band called little barrie http://littlebarrie.com/
what that is? is recreational dirty stuff.

true, if these songs were being played on a 7 string guitar and 5 string bass (you know the ones with the lower top string)

but I guess it's mostly the stoner rock mentality stuff like sleep in terms of approach (mostly in the bass)
but to me the sludge part is mostly in the guitar tone, I'm using alot of deep muff tones with a second amp with a clean/dirty tone.
the idea is that it gets all of the deep gritty tones while still being able to provide tone and add to the wall of sound.

sorry rambling.
I don't know, I just want a project that isn't tied in with something bland and overdone. like how everyone wants to play blues licks over these kinds of riffs.
