Received an album through the mail with heavy mildew damage.
I have a good cleaning regimen that worked for that situation, and for record cleaning in general.

I'm sure many of you use a similar formula. I use a spray bottle with 2/3 distilled water, 1/3 pure as possible alcohol,
and a little circular motion (as in following the grooves) elbow grease with microfibre towels. Then dry them with another dry microfibre towel.
Doesn't scratch the vinyl, but gets all the dirt out really, really well, like machine clean.
I use a dry microfibre towel first to lightly brush off the surface dirt on really dirty ones I've come across.
Splurge on the plastic lined paper sleeves for your real keepers, and they stay beautiful!

* I have stopped using alcohol in the mix as it noticably removes the shine of the vinyl, which tells me it's doing more than just removing dirt.

You'll want to add a tiny, like miniscule drop of Dawn (blue formula used in oil spills to clean birds) leaves-no-residue-behind dish soap to the above formula is good to break the surface tension
and get to the bottom of the grooves.

Of course for the less discriminating, there's the full-auto method as well:

Garage sale this weekend. Guy on right with the hat has over 50,000 records and has had to reinforce his home's foundation to support the weight.
(EDIT 08/18/2018: Ran into him recently. He lost all of them along with his home in the 2017 Santa Rosa fires. He got his insurance money and promptly bought someones collection)

Guy behind him with hand to mouth equated vinyl with crack addiction. ;)

A timely find. RIP Mr. Brubeck.

Oh yeah, unless you can hook up a distilled water with alcohol source that doesn't get too hot and magically avoids soaking your labels. Just thought it was a funny pic.

But dead serious on the microfibre towels. Washcloth sized ones used for car detailing. Fantastic.
I'm going to get larger ones next time.

Using them can build up a little static and make all your air dust swarm towards your shiny clean record, so this anti static guy is good for a last once over when you put it on the turntable.

even outside of the 'all analog' idea.... sometimes vinyl has some great masters... orignal master tapes... it's all about THE SOURCE and THE TREATMENT

(in that order... in my opinion...)

i'll jump in and have fun with a pic or two with 'yall; right now i set up the TT and the reciever at this new studio space and i'm rippin' them (gotta have a backup.)

cleaning:

http://discdoc.com/

at first, i had some problems - but i realized the problems were in the records!

it's an amazing way to clean. the records sound not only clearer... but 'different' afterwards... another step closer... closer!

i see JBL's! tube amps!

high fidelity!

once i really started referencing LP's... I had to not rely on digital masters... not that a digital master can't sound great - but, it's hard to rely on them... except for content already mastered in the digital domain - then it doesn't sound right on vinyl -

if it's analog, keep it analog, listen analog / if it's digital, get the source files

I just moved a few weeks ago and bought a new stereo cabinet and unpacked my vinyl just before new years.

Some of my gems are Swirled "Are We Not Men, We are DEVO" a Sticky Fingers with zipper, Bobby Gentry "Ode to Billy Joe" in mono and Them Crooked Vultures which is playing off 180 gram vinyl as I type.

That method scares the %#^#%* out of me.

I suppose if I was going to try wood glue, I'd buy and test on some garage sale or Goodwill Montovani LP's first?

It makes sense. The glue (wood glue is suggested) gets into the groove and then pulls out the crud when you peel it. I have a spare turntable (that I could never find a stylus for) to not muck up my nice one. I'm gonna try it someday.
