Great as usual, Kurt. The performance gets especially intense near the end; I think your capture reflects that very well!

What kind of space is that? I like the balance between direct and reverberant sound.

I think my favorite recording of the cello suites is the Pierre Fournier one on Deutsche Gramophon (the old Casals one is my favorite judged on performance alone though). The meaty body of the cello comes across without sacrificing the edge or the sound of the bow. It strikes me as having a similar balance of reverb to yours.

Another great recording of these is the first Rostropovich one - not the one from the nineties but from 1955 recorded for Czech Radio and released on Supraphon.

Brian:

Thank you for your response. I will check those recordings out.

The space is actually a little odd. It is a chapel in downtown Chicago in the second floor of an old office building. The roof/alter area of the chapel is about 40 tall, where as the roof in the rest of the space is about 15 feet tall. The floor where the musicians play is marble which can be a little bright sometimes.

I will confess that I added a pinch of digital reverb.
