So my band Royal Forest has done some field recordings and videos over the last few years - in a desert, in a submarine, but the latest was in a 1970s Piper Cherokee Arrow about 5,000 feet over Austin, TX.

Went up 2 by 2, took 4 flights in total recording to a Zoom H4n handheld thingy. The vocal mic in the video came out of a WWII gas mask - we just rewired it to XLR. Took the tracks back and mixed down at the studio.

That was very cool. I like the concept, and really like the song too.
Did you guys trigger samples on that snare drum in the mix? I watched it on a laptop and couldn't turn it up very loud when I watched it, but it sounded like that was the case...

Nope - no triggers; all the sounds came from the recording.
It's a little rack tom he's playing, and we spent some time tuning it and experimenting with hitting it with the stick and hand and using a contact mic in different positions to get more of a variety of sounds out of it.

Yeah the only perfidy in the whole thing was editing quarter note on the drums in one section where the plane got loud
