I love soundtracks and label comps for this reason. Also will recommend a radio station that specializes in exactly this:

(Also, perhaps relatedly, the first station to broadcast over IP.) I love them so much.

I hadn't considered how soundtracks often have many different genres on them... they usually seem to work.
