Instrumental music is not dead.
Just finished mixing an album for Aaron Whitby.
"Cousin From Another Planet"
8 long tracks of wonderful, funky jazz, most instrumentals but when there are vocals they
are heavenly.
I hope this is a returning "thing"... interesting accessible instrumental music.
My 8 yr. old had memorized the melodies and was happily dancing to the music the entire time we were working on it.
It should be out in a couple of months.

Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Cool, let us know.
Lately, I been listening to DeJohnette, Grenadier, Medeski & Scofield's Hudson, and Donny McCaslin's Beyond Now.
And of course, Sco-Mule.

Re: Instrumental music is not dead.
Who's been saying instrumental music is dead? Jazz, electronic, orchestral, and ambient/noise have always been thriving in their own scenes.
As for being on the pop charts, I suppose that's a different story.

I used to never pay attention to vocals -- I was more into proggy compositions and crazy soundscapes -- but I got over that and have since come to appreciate a lot of singer-songwriter-type-stuff. Only thing I can't really get into is jazz singing... maybe someday I will mature again and appreciate that too.markjazzbassist wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2017 1:47 pmi don't care for vocals, never have. i have always gravitated for the music.

Shameless plug - when not playing drums with the Dead Milkmen - I also play with an all instrumental band called "I Think Like Midnight".
We released an LP a couple years ago which you can check out here:

We just finished a second LP that we tracked with Brian McTear at Miner Street here in Philly. (Brian's been in TapeOp magazine).
We're at the mastering stage now and hope to release the new recordings early 2018.

That's good stuff, mrclean. I look forward to hearing the new record when it's released.
