Podcasting gear and portable multitrack recorder wanted...

Hey all,
I'm looking for either podcasting or a portable digital multitracking gear in perfect working order. Really just some software and a USB mic or two I can plug into my PC to record a friend and I would suffice. But...a Roland or Boss or equivilent 4 or 8 track would be cool too! We'd like to start recording a weekly forum on music, buffer it to my drive, then upload it to a server for those who would like to listen to it. I can offer free mastering and/or CD dupe towards the trade if you have any of this gear you don't use. Brand does not matter...neither does it being hi-fi. Is this even the right way to approach such an endeavor? Best...JD!

I highly recommend using Audacity for podcasting - mainly because its free. I bought my mother the Alesis USB mic last year for her podcast and she used audacity to record skype. If you use Mac, I also recommend Soundflower for bussing audio to and from audacity.

The Alesis USB mic is a bit wonky, in my opinion. She has to get right up on it with the volume all the way up to get a decent level. Skype comes through compressed and hot, and lo fi, but the end result was pretty good after I compressed the bejesus out of the whole thing and scooped off the low end.

I bet you can find an old m-audio USB 2 channel interface and use 2 SM58's to greater effect. I don't have any gear to sell or trade you - just that advice!

after about 10 episodes she was offered a radio show, so this fun little mother-son coast to coast project ended - but for a cool reason!
