I am looking to purchase some API 312 *cards*, API 325 Cards and any type of Melcore cards or modules, the EQs not their mic pre's. I hear that they are all pretty cheap. But they sound rare, especially the Melcore's. I've seen in your past posts (drewbass) that you have some or have had some in the past. I was wondering if you are in a positions to part with some?
Thanks Steve.
Thanks Steve.
What does this have to do with anything?jvanslem wrote:This has been addressed a zillion times. please search the forum.
Drew asked Steve his budget. Steve replied $600, and asked what that would get him. You can search the fucking forum until your blue in the face, and still not figure out what $600 of Steves money will buy from Drew!
Steve, if you can buy from Drew he is a good guy. I highly recomend him. If you want to ask any specific questions about any API or Melcor gear you can send me an email: jre_productions@yahoo.com I have lots of API and Melcor gear that I have racked from raw parts. Hey and I won't tell you to use the search function either.

oops. my bad... I must have skipped over a post there.
I though it was another "what's a good preamp?" post.
carry on.
likewise for jre! (that was a pretty funny response too)
steve- jre collects api and melcor gear and parts, post him and/or pm him as well.
i agree- this is the first time i've seen anything this specific posted. i've seen no where near a zillion posts. you will most likely turn up nothing concerning how much api/melcor you can buy from me for $600.

Thanks Drew. Yea I also have some EQ-20's on the way. These are just prior to the GME-20s. I also now have a small stash of Melcor parts to go with the ever growing API parts bin. I would really like to hear how the Compressors turned out.....
Sorry to hi-jack the thread. Back on topic. If your into DIY, I would suggest API 325 cards and a Jensen JT 115K transformer. These are killer preamps. For a tad bit more, the 312's already have the transformer mounted, and would save time.
Melcor has the AM 27 cards which are the pre-coursor to the 312 cards. Really smooth sounding too. Also look for MAP which I believe are another spin off (pre api) of Melcor. Basically a line card can usually become a mic pre with the addition of a transformer, and some minor parts swap. Another killer project is Quad 8. There have been some on Ebay for around $250 per card.

Not to hijack the thread but since Joe mentioned Quad 8, check out the CA-227 kit that is offered up by Ken @ www.orphanaudio.com.
I've not built one, thought it is tempting, but I'm broke and have a bunch of other DIY/Racking projects to complete, including my Spectra sonics 101's which are driving me nuts... ground them is a bugger...
Cheers
