2 more Symetrix SX202 preamps with McGuire mods

Post by drunton » Mon Apr 10, 2006 10:17 pm

I just finished building my SCA preamp kits and have 2 more Symetrix SX202 Preamps for sale (dual preamps each).

They come with the wall wart supplies and if you buy both - I will include a transformer I put in a box with cables to supply both - with a lot of current headroom.

These have been modified with a bunch of the Monte McGuire modifications that really clean them up and they are said to rival the sytek's - but I haven't compared.

The modifications are detailed here:
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.audi ... F-8&rnum=1

What has been done (the big impact stuff):
1. Change the compensation caps for the SSM2015 chip
2. Output opamps are socketed and new chips are in place (one has LT1469's the other Burr Browns).
3. Film caps for the 2015 to output amp coupling
4. Extra grounding added
5. Input coupling caps changed to new electrolytics
6. All signal caps except the phantom blocking and film DC block are removed - 2 caps total in the signal path.
7. Filter caps on the power supply upgraded.

I am asking $200 plus shipping for each SX202 with the PS (add 3% for paypal credit card, no charge for bank transfer). I don't have pics right now, but will get them if you are interested.

You can hear them on the snare and toms here: www.authenticaudio.com/MP3/Demo/01%20Mu ... 0Sally.mp3

You can't charge extra for people to use Paypal. It's against their TOS. Sorry...

One preamp left - the burr brown opamps cost a little less, so how about $200 shipped to the lower 48.

The chips are socketed, so spend the money later and upgrade them to LT's any time you want.

I recently bought two of these from Dave and I rate him very highly as a seller, prompt shipping with tracking #, good communication and the pre's sound really, really nice! Thanks Dave.
