CASTANETS and JANA HUNTER's gear stolen Tucson 5/23/7

Post by j_howell » Sun Jun 24, 2007 11:19 am

Anybody knows anything, or sees any or Ray and Jana's stuff around please get in touch...you can reach Ray and or Jana via their respective Myspace pages, http://www.myspace.com/castanets http://www.myspace.com/janahunter (I think that's Jana's MS URL, at least...) or I can relay to them...

Gear theft sucks, especially when it happens to good people who make really really good music.

Thanks,
J

Subject All Our Shit Are Stole
Body: JANA HUNTER AND CASTANETS GEAR STOLEN
So, the story is, last night we played in tucson at solar culture.
afterward, we loaded our stuff up, went downtown, had a drink, and
went to a house to crash on the floor. en route, we damaged a door,
making it such that the door won't close and such that eventually,
before we return the vehicle to the rental company, we'll have to pay
on the order of 2 grand to replace the door.

seeing as how we had an unsecured vehicle, ray (castanets) slept in
the van. sometime during the night, some brave fuck(s) very quietly
opened the back door and took what they could carry. we assume their
were more than one of them given all the shit they managed to walk
away with. we're gathering what serial numbers we can, but in the
meantime, here's a rudimentary list:

JH gear-
fender classical guitar (ser.#9505151116)
new boss 20xl loopstation
boss reverb/delay pedal
original digitech whammy pedal
original b k butler tubedriver overdrive pedal
peavey 6 mixer (ser.#k0344300)
shure beta 98/s
custom flashlight circuit-bended thing

Castanets gear-
late 60's blue fender music master guitar
line 6 delay pedal
boss tremolo
mutron volume/wah pedal
boss tuner pedal
digitech metal master
ebow
slides/cables

all this after we had to fly our friend/drummer to the airport
yesterday morning so he could go to the hospital. pretty big bummer
all around.
-JH

So there's that. Anybody knows anybody who knows anything about this in Tucson or elsewhere let us know. Alright.

ouch I've heard this story too many times

Post by supafuzz » Sun Jun 24, 2007 5:26 pm

Please: everyone on tour RULE #1
unload your van into the hotel motel house you're crashing in etc

this happens way too many times and makes me sad...
you guys work for frickin hard and I know it's a pain in the ass
after you've traveled all day/night and unloaded did the gig reloaded
the last thing you want to do is unload and reload again..but we've all heard the same story over and over..I'm not sure there's another alternative..
I used to recommend someone sleep in the van but without an alarm that doesn't seem to work.
unload your van into the hotel motel house you're crashing in etc

thanks those assholes don't deserve your gear!!

I generally agree, but...

Post by j_howell » Tue Jun 26, 2007 2:48 pm

...what if that's not an option? What do you do when you're crashing on some kind person's floor in a tiny apartment that can't hold a van full of gear and guests? Then what?

In any case, gear thievery sucks. Even if you left every door to a van full of gear wide open, people really should be decent enough to not take things that don't belong to them.

Phew...this is something that's non-negotiable not with your band mates your friends the groupies who are ready to ravish you and especially not in your head......you have to find a way to do it..
c'mon that's why this shit keeps happening because people fool themselves into thinking there's no option......then they go to sleep and wake up to missing gear. Happened to friends in Toronto a few weeks ago and it will happen every night until people learn the hard lesson.

There's a class of predator who doesn't care about you and their job is to follow the band from the gig and steal your stuff, They have a lot of experience and they've run into the same scenario countless times....band leaves gig and leaves van full of gear parked and goes off to get drunk or party or sleep and they go to work.

that's what...

back your van against a light pole, garage door, or cement wall. that's what my band does, and maybe it's just dumb luck, but we've never had our gear stolen.

dumb luck
they're going to break in and move the van away form the pole or wall etc or just drive the whole van away...please stop giving false hope..

this is what our brains do..we'll keep trying to come up with answers we can feel
good about as problem solutions....when it should be
NO EXCUSES NO EXCEPTIONS LEAVE NOTHING TO CHANCE AND FUCK THE BADGUYS HERE'S OUR EMPTY VAN....

first off - sorry about your gear. that totally sucks.

we also back our van against a wall and put a new "club" thing on the steering wheel. so far (knock on wood) we've not had our van broken into. again, it could be luck. but it's worked so far.

so my only recommendation to anyone touring is, if you're not gonna bring your gear into the room your staying in, you MUST back your van against a wall! most crooks are lazy. if they don't see the prize right in front of them, smash and grab or something, then they're less likely to spend the time getting at it.

You're still taking a gamble, there is a class of pros out there that will strip you clean or steal the whole van and then what.

I'm not trying to be a voice of negativity [anyone who knows me knows I'm quite the opposite] In this case I'm very firm that it's the safer the better.
Leave nothing to chance keep your gear and don't gamble that thieves are all lazy..you keep your gear and have a happy, hopefully profitable tour..

Agreed, both ways- being as safe as possible is obviously best, but when there's no other option...well, a lot of crimes are crimes of opportunity, and the less opportunity you provide the lame fucks who'd rip you off, the less likely they are to. That said, if someone REALLY wants to rip you off, they'll find a way. Simple as that.
