FS: 2 MXL 2001 Royer Modified Tube Mics

Post by Auris » Mon Jul 30, 2007 4:51 pm

I have 2 MXL 2001 microphones that were modified to become tube mics. They were modified to be similar to the Neumann U47. The mod was developed by David Royer and published in the Sept/Oct 2001 issue of Tape Op magazine. I did the mod right after the article came out and used the parts that came with the kit. I have only used these for about 20 hours each. Each microphone has a 5840 tube inside, one has a Philips and the other has a GE tube. I've been mainly mixing and haven't been recording, so I'm cutting down my mic collection. I'm asking $650 for both, or $350 a piece. Shipping is free.

Can you post a link to some sound samples? I have 2 MXL 2001's and though about doing this mod myself but I ain't got the soldering skillz, yo.

I have a project that I need to finish, but after that I can post some samples. Probably around Friday.

Trust me, you will not be sorry if you buy these mics, I made one myself and it was astonishing how different (for the better) it sounded. One of these days I want to put in the Peluso capsule, but I have given up DIY really (this was one of my only successful projects). The price is great on these too, wish I had the money right now.
