WTB: Ampex MM1100 Head Mounting Plate

Post by Kyle Motor » Tue Jun 03, 2008 10:36 am

Long story short, I've got a 2" 16-track headblock from an MM1000 that I'd like to put on an MM1100, but the mounting plates are different.

AFAIK, the connecting pins for the heads are the same on either machine (if I'm wrong, somebody PLEASE correct me).

So I'm interested in the head mounting plate for an MM1100. Or if you've got a set of worn-out MM1100 heads, I'd be interested, just for the plate.

Anybody have any experience with pulling a stunt like this? Any and all advice is welcome.

Thanks,
Kyle

Kyle

I think the connectors are different between the MM-1000 and the MM-1100.

If John is unable to help you I have one available that I acquired a while ago. It is actually a full 16 track assembly complete with hum shields and cover. The heads are no use, so don't get excited. Also, it needs some serious cleaning up.

Email me if interested. davidollard at yahoo dot com

Oh, Kyle, by the way, depending on which exact model heads they are, the sync response may not be all that great, since the MM-1000 had wide gap record heads.

Dave

Cool, thanks for the info, I've gotta weigh some options. I'm thinking I'll try to sell my MM1000 heads and buy a 2" 16-track MM1100 headstack instead of trying to mod everything.

OK, but still talk to John French first!!! 2" 16T heads for the MM-1100/1200 are very hard to come by, and not cheap. John may be able to suggest other options.
