FS: Custom 1975 12 x 4 Mixing Console - PRICE LOWERED!

Post by moogplayer » Sun Nov 30, 2008 9:33 am

Amazingly...still available!

What you see before you is seriously a one of a kind piece of recording history. Made by Decibelab in Massachusetts, there were only 2 of these consoles made. This is the larger one, which the original designer kept himself. Also, the guy who built this console worked for Aengus, who made high-end consoles & EQs back in the day. I was told that the 5 band EQ on this desk is close in design to the Aengus.

The layout is 12 input (mic and line), 4 buss out, unbalanced +4db operation via 1/4" connections (common in those days). There are UTC transformers at every input. Unique 5 band EQ, 1 aux send, 1 cue send, and a control room section. There's the original separate power supply as well.

The console works pretty well, considering it is 100% stock. Takes about 20 minutes for the power supply to properly warm up and then it's fine. Being that it's some 33 years old it is more or less due to a recap and a great foundation for additional mods (lotsa room here!). As it is, I have cut 2 full-length albums on the console. Everything through it sounds awesome. Very up front 70s sound. Solid on the midrange. I used this as a front end for Pro Tools.

It really is one of the coolest mixing consoles you'll ever see. Big bright colored lights and meters are are all working. Just gives ya the vibe to create as soon as you enter the studio.

Hate to let this go - but I am downsizing, and don't have the real estate to house this anymore. Measures about 5' x 3'5" and weighs some 200lbs.

Sold as is...comes with original owner's manual + schematics.

Email for additional pics and shots of schematics.

SERIOUS ONLY

$1400 or best offer. Will listen to interesting trades for preamps/compressors.

PICKUP IN SAN DIEGO. CANNOT SHIP THIS.

email inquiries to: airport71@yahoo.com

I am a longtime Tape-Opper with a long list of successful transactions here. Thanks!

Very cool looking console. Any photos of the insides? I'd love to see how it is put together.

I have so far spent a good deal of time coming back to this thread, staring at the pics, and trying to think of a way that I could need/use this. I think it's just not got enough auxes and busses for my needs, damn it!

I hope this goes to some lucky person's happy studio.
