MCI 1/4" & 1/2" machines for sale
I have 2 MCI JH110 1/4" and one 1/4" with a 1/2" headstack machines for sale. each is 100% working and refurbished. along with the pictures below there are links to a video of each machine in action doing a frequency response test in record mode to let you know i speak the truth. also, you can send me mixes to record onto one (or all) of these decks so you can "hear" the deck prior to purchase. delivery available to certain cities...so let me know where you are and we'll work something out.
first up:
1979 MCI JH110A-2 1/4" w/manual SOLD
has output xformers and Russ Lang cabinet. heads have been re-lapped by JRF (waiting to hear back from JRF on date it was done). this thing as serious low end attitude, even at 30IPS.
See for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DIBb7s0CxQ
next:
1983 MCI JH110 BX (C) 1/4" 15IPS $1000SOLD
this machine is flat up to 20Khz, which is awesome for 15IPS (30IPS for that matter) this is the same make/model I used on the 33 minute live to two track jam i posted here: http://messageboard.tapeop.com/viewtopic.php?t=61161
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CUhdB3SOIQ
and finally:
1980 MCI JH110 B/C 1/4" $1250; $2500 with both 1/4" and 1/2" headstacks. 1/2" headstacks just evaluated by JRF and have 80 PERCENT life!! SOLD
newly refurbished capstain motor (notice how nice and white the capstain shaft is) has C model bias cards required for 1/2" headstacks. both sets of headstacks come with rollers. this machine also has the roller on the dancer arm for reduced wow and flutter - thus it's a B/C.

thanks for looking- hit me with any questions.

i still have the 1/4" 1/2" combo machine for sale- been using it on some projects so i haven't bumped this thread...until now. here's the scoop:
1980 MCI JH110 B/C 1/4" $1250; $2500 with both 1/4" and 1/2" headstacks. 1/2" headstacks just evaluated by JRF and have 80 PERCENT life!! SOLD

$2500 is a smokin deal for a machine with both 1/4" and 1/2" heads- i may consider selling the 1/2" heads + rollers separate and/or the machine as a dedicated 1/4" machine, fyi.
hit me up with any questions.

Chris,
I've located a 1/2" JH110 that I can have delivered free of charge.
DO you have an opinion on the practicality/desirability or valuation aspects of a Russ Lang Cabinet VS. a metal cabinet for JH110's? I know you are familiar with both.
Also, for a 2 track do you recommend a Dolby SR system?
WHere do you buy tape and what tape do you like for that machine?

hey jim,
i've found that the russ lang cabinets tend to have a bit more low end around the 200hz range. j/k!
i like the RS cabinets- they're basically the high profile metal cabinet but made of wood. you can get more usable space out of them because you can put stuff on top of it, and rack some more gear in the extra audio drawer spaces.
if you're hitting 1/2" tape at a good level you won't need any noise reduction.
i prefer ATR tape and i buy it from Nashville Tape Supply. you might be able to buy it directly from ATR. go to http://www.atrtape.com for more info.
great find- make sure it has the newer bias cards that can fully erase 1/2 tape though.

ps- the 1/2 machine i have listed has sold. thanks!

Thanks Chris, One more question please. I was talking to Carl Saff (Mastering engineer) who has one in the metal cabinet and he says the electronics in the preamp/vu area are really easy to get to for adjusting the pots & bias, etc. With the Russ Lang cabinet, would this become inconvenient or would you need to stand on a chair?
