This is the Sydec (Sydec Audio Engineering - www.sydec.be) version of the Alpha Link converters SSL now sells. Basically right after we bought this system about 3 years ago SSL purchased the Belgian company Sydec and rebadged the converters/pci cards and started selling them for a few dollars more. This is a 24 ch IN / OUT system. This system will work with any PC system that uses ASIO drivers. Or if you'd like to use with Apple you can sell the Mixpander card and use the ADAT outs on the converters to interface with your choice of PCI card. When used with Cubase, which is what we've done, you can get EXTREMELY low latency settings. The Mixer software which comes with the Mixpander PCI card is extremely intuitive and easy to use and it allows for very easy set up of direct monitoring / cue mix groups.
It has the following connections on the back:
- 24 Analog In/Out (25 pin D Sub connectors)
- 24 ADAT in / Out (so you can use with any PCI card that has ADAT connections like the RME cards, or you can interface with other converters)
- Expansion port connector, which is used to connect to the Mixpander PCI card.
- Word Clock IN/OUT
-MIDI IN/OUT
This system is by far the cheapest and highest quality way to get 24 channels of conversion. If you have a 24track tape machine like we do this is pretty much the only way to go unless you are willing to spend 4K+. Plus since it doesn't say SSL on it you can get it for a bit cheaper than the Alpha Link stuff. The company Sydec still exists and they still support this version. In fact, you can purchase all the DSP Plugins they offered for the Mixpander system, including a set of very nice SSL EQ/Filters. We never purchased any of the DSP Plugins, but I'm going to check about transferring our Sydec account to any prospective buyer.
So you get:
- 24 channel converters
- Mixpander 5 PCI card (which has 5 DSP chips for plugin processing)
- interface cable to connect converters to mixpander card.
Condition:
- the converters have a scratch about 1.5" long below the top left rack screw. that's it...everything else works and looks great.
Price: $2000.
Please do a search and read up on this system. You'll find very few people complaining about the performance of these converters/pci cards. The only reason we are selling this system is because we are slimming down our set up and don't need this many channels of AD/DA.
