FS:Tricked out Trident 65 32 ch. console ready to go
(edited w/ new info)
I'm selling my Trident 65. It's a 32X8X8X2 board. There are actually 16 busses, but they're switchable so you have to choose between buss 1 and 9, 2 and 10, 3 and 11 etc.
The good:
29 of the inputs have Jim Williams or JW copied mods. Why 29 you ask? Well, I bought the console w/ 4 of the inputs upgraded, and subsequently copied them (including all the electrolytic bypasses which were about 15 per channel,) but I used National LME49710NA's instead of LT1357 chips which JW uses. I a/b'd the Nationals with Burr Brown OPA134 chips and thought the Nationals were a little smoother. They're great chips and you'll often hear JW recommending them. Anyway, so the end result is 29 channels including electrolytic bypasses with stability caps added to each IC, 24 of which use National chips, 4 of which use Linear Technology LT1357, and 1 of which uses Burr Brown OPA134 (a different flavor preamp? eh). All these inputs have tons of headroom. With the average level coming out of my Radar II, I can throw the fader all the way up, and crank the line input pot all the way without any clipping. Pretty amazing really. There are also 3 remaining input channels with the original TLO71 chips in them.
As well, the master section has been upgraded by Jim Williams, so I haven't touched it. It appears he upgraded a bunch of caps, added a bunch of bypasses, and of course upgraded IC's everywhere.
I even replaced chips in aux sends 1-4 with the Nationals because I had extras.
I've replaced a bunch of pots and a couple switches.
All mic preamps and phantom power are working properly, all line amps, eq's, all of the aux's, aux returns, busses, master functions etc. I've checked all these things and replaced any pots or switches that needed it, cleaned all the phantom switches. I have some extra pots that'll be included. I've held off on spraying anything in any of the pots (except for about 6 aux pots that were just way too scratchy)
Also, I built a new Power supply using enormous, way over-rated Acopian supplies (15 and 12 amp for the positive and negative rails), so there is all the current this console will ever need and then a whole lot more. The power supply also includes a 48V power one phantom power supply that has enough juice to power 64 preamps, and there is a 5V supply for the LED's.
I don't have the 8V DC supply for the VU meter lamps as part of the power supply. The wiring is all there for it though. I can't imagine you'd need much more than 2A so something like this would probably work: http://cgi.ebay.com/BRAND-NEW-8V-2A-AC- ... 7C294%3A50
The other "bads" are: VU for buss 7 isn't working for some reason. Buss 7 works fine but the VU itself is out. Also, there are the somewhat comical LED lights (see pics) that the previous owner installed that say "doorbell" and "telephone" etc. There is internal wiring for these too incase someone wants to use them for one thing or another. I kind of like them so I haven't taken off the labels yet. The talkback mic has been disconnected for some reason. I'm wondering if JW did this because it somehow lowered the noise floor?
Anyway, it's pretty much ready to make a record on and it sounds really awesome with all the upgrades. Anyone who is in my neck of the woods (Portland, OR) is of course welcome to come check it out anytime. It's still hooked up to the patch bay and easy to demo.
Concerning possible partial trades, I'm of course still looking for what I feel is the right console for my work flow. In that list is a Sound Workshop 1280B, Yamaha PM2000 or Auditronics 110/501. Also, feel free to tempt me with short-scale fender guitars or gretsch guitars or small tube amps or a rhodes or a leslie or anything that creates any sort of psychedelic sound.

I used to have funny lights on my old Neve:
"Phasers to Kill"
"Beam me Up"
"No Talent Present"
"Warp Speed"
Mostly Star Trek related, but fun. Most artists never saw these, as they were small, and were identical to the other monitoring section buttons. Some even had actual functions.
Cheers

Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Hijack Alert: This is part of a 6 channel monitoring switching system that a friend of mine built for a film transfer bay, its more complicated than you can imagine. The best part are the switches and flashing lights that are just there to make it look even more complicated..
Sorry to stomp on your thread, great console you got there..
