For Sale: Quarter Track Ampex 440 Stash near Boston. $200

My eyes are bigger than my space.... At least one complete machine racked and then LOTS of spares. Hardly museum quality but far from trashed.

Transports (four or five?) electronics (B and C), cables, servo capstans.

A few headblocks.

Extra pinch rollers and hubs if I'm in the mood, too.

Pick up only! Less than an hour north of Boston.

I'm taking a bath but $200.00 takes it all.

This is absolutely the best way to get into ownership of a professional tape machine, unless you are able to pay big bucks for a fully restored one. From the sound of it there will be ample parts here to put together one - possibly two - machines.

Be careful that the "B" and "C" electronics have to be matched to the appropriate "B" or "C" transport.

Make sure you have a manual, join the Ampex Mailing List, read the stuff on the recordist.com website, and then start rebuilding your first machine!

$200 is a fair price for what this gentleman is selling from the looks of it.

Good luck someone!

To whomever bought this: I'm on the lookout for a 440B reel motor, I am also in Massachusetts. PM me if you feel like selling one.
Thanks
Jerry
