FS: Vintage 1965 Gibson J-50

Post by Sean Sullivan » Mon Aug 24, 2009 4:25 pm

Sloped shoulders, natural finish, spruce top, mahogany back and sides, 14-fret mahogany neck, 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearloid dot inlay. Tortoise pick guard, 3-on-a-plate Kluson Deluxe tuners. Comes with a Roadrunner case that fits it very nicely, but I'll sell it for $100 less without the case. I would say it is VGC, it has some deeper scratches and missing finish/finish cracks on the sides, but the front, neck, and head stock looks amazing, and apart from one scratch the back is in surprising nice condition.

I'd like to get $2000 with the case, $1900 without. If you need it shipped (I'm in Nashville) you are going to want to buy the case. I might try to find a nicer one and try to do an exchange at Guitar Center.

You should use the sandals picture as a record cover!

I'd but that thing in a heartbeat if I had the bread.

I was up at sean's yesterday and played this guitar. It's in ridiculously good shape, and sounds great. Someone should buy this. If I didn't already have a J45 I'd pick it up.

J45 is sunburst and J50 is natural, I think that's about it.

Muttonhead is correct. If you trust wikipedia, J-45 were made sunburst to cover up imperfection in the wood because it was in short supply from 1942-1947, until the end of the war, so the J-50 could be made in a natural finish because the wood was of better quality.

I used to have a '65 J50 just like that one. Very nice sounding instrument. Very natural balance and strong bottom end. I'm a big fan of Gibson acoustic guitars.

Ahhh... Thanks my friend.

Aren't J45 and J50 about the only piece of gear you don't have?;)
