Used but well maintained. Never left my studio for the past 5 years, a smoke-free environment. No issues other than that it sometimes has issues powering certain large diaphragm condensers, but I will include a free Rolls phantom power supply. An excellent board with great preamps, it's served me well and made great recordings.

Asking $750 + shipping OBO.

Cheers,
Kasey

First post here...sweet...

Saw your Ad while lurking and I've been looking into various boards quite a bit.
I recently got an A&H Zed R-16 which is flawless while using pro tools/logic etc.
However, it's a real pain while using my tape machine because it has no tape returns etc...I definitely plan to work with tape a lot more...

Not sure if you're familiar with this board but figure it's worth asking, how does the summing and overall sound compare?

The Topaz or soundcraft ghost seem like a good choice for what I want to do...

Is this the original Topaz, or the second Project 8 version and does it have the meter bridge? Thanks.

The original version (Miami Vice color scheme), and no meter bridge. Sorry, should have been more specific!

I've not worked with A&H boards extensively, mostly just in live settings here and there. I have been led to believe this is because they are stronger in a live sound setting. I bought the Topaz years ago based on the cult following it had on this forum (which is undoubtedly a collection of the best minds in audio, dig in!). The preamps alone would be worth a pretty penny if sold as rack units, clean and punchy. Also has 4-band semi-parametric EQ on all channels - I got rid of all my rack EQ units as soon as I got this, as the built-in EQ was stronger.

Check out this link for more info:http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1994_ar ... ml It kill, and search for topics about both soundboards on this forum (I considered going with the Soundcraft Ghost myself before buying the Topaz - totally happy with my decision though)

It kills me to get rid of it, but I'm moving to Copenhagen next month so I've got to cut loose everything I possibly can.

Could you explain the Phantom power issue a bit more? Also I am in cedar rapids IA would you consider meeting part way?

The board has had this small issue ever since I bought it - small diaphragms condensers are fine, as are most large diaphragm condensers. However, the board does not seem to provide the full 48v required by only a few mics. Of my collection, only my AT4040 has any issues with this, but the problem was easily remedied by an external phantom power supply unit. Smooth sailing since.

I'd be happy to arrange a meeting halfway. I live in St. Louis, so I suppose that'd probably be Quincy?

Man this board + 16 tracks of tape + a 24channel trs Motu interface (and a shitload of cables) seem like the best damn setup for me...

Problem is i'd have to sell the A&H to raise funds, and I'm not sure if I want to do that since that board has a ton utility as well....hmm...let me think about this.

How much is shipping on this thing btw?

That'd be a killer setup, you're making me sad to see it go! Shipping should be around $80 to $90, but if you're in the midwest we could arrange a pickup as well.

I should mention that, since I'm leaving the country in 4 weeks, it will not be available for sale much longer - probably two more weeks or so. Just a heads up!

Do you know about what year this is from and if there have been any repairs/upgrades particularly with the power supply?

I purchased this board from another TapeOp member years ago - I do not believe there have ever been any issues or repairs with the power supply. I am not certain the exact year, though the serial number is 480058/9311, if anyone has a means of looking this up (I searched but couldn't find any). Hope this helps!
