Some details about the studio:
Double-layer 5/8" drywall w/ green glue, acoustic caulk, and staggered seams
Wall framing acoustically isolated from the rest of the house (room-within-a-room)
Dedicated electric circuit with isolated grounds
Bass traps in corners with 8lb rockwool
4" thick rockwool "cloud" over mix position
Owens-Corning 703 acoustic panels on the walls
Double solid-core door airlocks
40 channels of XLR mic lines throughout the house
Dedicated "machine-room" with connections for computer (dual DVI, Firewire, ethernet)
Acoustic silencers on HVAC
I hate to leave it, but my wife got a job in Butte, MT, so we're making the big move out west next week.

In Wisconsin you can get a brand new 2000 square foot house nicely decked out on about an acre for $180,000 to $200,000. For people that don't need the geographical advantages of a place like New York, or California, I'll never understand why you wouldn't want to live somewhere cheaper. You end up making more in New York and Cali, but not enough to make up for the crazy cost of living difference.underthebigtree wrote:
$190K? For a house that gorgeous with an acre of land?
Let's see, in the Bay Area, $190K would buy you...
Oh, that's right - nothing.
I love watching those home shows where they shop for houses because the people in New York, Cali, and Jersey, are buying $1,000,000 50 year old houses that need work, that my $250,000 brand new house on an acre, with a gorgeous view, in a quiet safe neighborhood puts to shame. Did I mention we have great public schools too? The winters can be tough here, but I'd say they are roughly on par with New York. We may have a couple more weeks of cold, but that's a price I'll pay.

A couple of years ago I was looking at a 5100 sq. ft. church with three attached school rooms a detached 3 bedroom house on a total of 4 residential lots in Fond du Lac. Price? $199,000.valverec wrote:In Wisconsin you can get a brand new 2000 square foot house nicely decked out on about an acre for $180,000 to $200,000.
Unfortuntaely, due to a number of circumstances I didn't make the deal. I wish to hell that church was in New Mexico!

Man Nate...that is one helluva' great looking place! Congrats on the sale...though I bet your bummed about having to lose your job. You got a tech gig lined up where you're goin'? Your wife had to get one helluva' offer to leave all that. And you just finished that studio! I'm sorry bro, but I bet even better things are headed your way...I know it! Who's the artist in the house? Love that too!
Working on music with Pete from Porno for Pyros...
meh, not so bummed about the job. I'll be doing some freelance stuff for them for the next few months, at least until I head back to school in January. I'll be starting an MSEE. I'll miss the studio, but there will be better ones down the road.
She snagged a federal job, so all her retirement points from 9 years in the National Guard will transfer over. The benefits are great also.
I'll pass along the kind words about her artwork.
