These are from broadcast consoles, and are based on API circuits. They use discrete opamps and have transformers. They were restored and racked by Port over at http://www.vintageproaudio.com.

Here is how he describes the sound:

"The 1668 came out of 770 series consoles early to late 70's the 2668 came out of the 2780/780 consoles late 70's to mid 80's. The 1668 uses the same input transformer (UTC same as the 1176) as the 2668 and same basic design( they both resemble the API 312 card). The 1668 uses a discrete opamp that is very close to the 2520, in fact the first couple of consoles of the 770 series used 2520 while ADM was waiting for there own discrete opamp to be finished. I had one it was loaded with 2520's, Paul Wolf told me that API sold ADM opamps for a very short time. It uses a open frame output transformer more like the API.

The 2668 uses a "Improved" discrete opamp that uses there own foot print, pinouts are different but it has all the same functions (that is why we have an adapter board that converts the ADM pinouts to API 2520 pinouts). I feel the ADM opamp in the 2668 sounds more like a 990 and it uses a custom sealed output transformer. The 2668 was considered an improvement by ADM over the 1668. It is more hi-if.

The 1668 is a little less open but big middle, 2668 more open top with a tight bottom and a good API like mid."
