FS: Focusrite Penta - Mic Pre / Stereo Compressor

Post by Brian Brock » Wed Oct 24, 2012 9:29 pm

Bought this here a few years ago.

The Focusrite Penta combines a decent mono microphone preamp with a stereo compressor. The mic pre has a DI and a high pass filter. The compressor uses a "preset" system, in which a simple press of a button can change several parameters at once, offering great starting points for about 20 instruments and usage scenarios. All parameters are also fully controllable - the Penta is pretty versatile and can sound huge and thick, or totally transparent.

The Penta has a tube emulation circuit, which is of course one hundred percent accurate to the sound of real warm vintage tubes, and it has switchable soft knee compression which is actually pretty cool. There's a stereo enhancement tool.

This Penta is in good condition. Everything works perfectly, and there's barely a scratch on it. The only small problem is that the LEDs which signal the tube and soft knee circuits are not working (one is stuck lit and one is stuck off). The circuits do work (the tube emulation audibly fattens up the signal, and the soft knee brings the compression in more gradually as the signal reaches the threshhold), so you can just use your ears and the gain reduction meters to choose which mode you prefer. I'll include a power cable.

$135 shipped to non-AK or -HI USA.
