fs: b&o bm-3 ribbon mic (orig. royer 121), enak rehabb'd

so, this obviously is the design heritage to the royer 121. i wouldn't say they sound the same... very similar, smooth, detailed treble, yes. this is much more between a 44 and 77 (both big and smooth yet slightly higher output and good treble detail) than a royer (lean and detailed all around).

about 6 months or so ago, i had it re-ribboned, and clarence kane (enak ribbon mics) suggested the lundahl transformer upgrade. i was skeptical. but, it was a fabulous improvement. treble extension. bass depth and clarity. paired with a good re-ribbon job, yeah. awesome.

it's best on drum overheads, or in front of the kit. or, floor tom. or, vocals. also on trumpets and tubas. it excels amazingly on all of these. it's not a 'close mic' on much, especially NOT for guitar or bass cabs, mainly because it's a RCA 44-style ribbon, and can't handle super loud things that close. back it away a foot, and you're fine, and great for blending.

basically, i'm doing more DIY stuff, and getting a fund up for, perhaps, a tape-op ad for these all tube mic/line amps i've designed/built (and a wurlitzer 200a tube amp drop-in replacement for the transistor board).

so, i'm doing less recording, and don't need a deep mic locker. the ribbon that i'm keeping is a beyer m260 - a totally different vibe than this one. i rarely record drums anymore other than close mic'd for live recordings. most everything else is acoustic or piano based.

on ebay.

These things are cool! I used a couple of these on a session a few months back and loved them. If I was mic hunting right now, I'd totally be on this.

sound clips! on vocals, when i get quiet, i move really close to the mic. otherwise, i'm about 8" back, no pop filter, just minding my pops...

no eq, no compression. mic to preamp to RME converters.

API 512 preamp:
