JLM Audio Dual 99v 2 channel microphone pre amp mic pre

$1195 shipped and pp'd to US48

This is the big brother to JLM Dual99v500 Mic Pre which lists for $1k/1channel. Thick transformer combo, dual gain staging, variable impedance which allows 'tuning' of microphone - most useful with ribbon microphones on overheads or other instruments where lush high frequencies need to be kept, well, lush.

In absolutely mint condition. These rarely come up for sale, that should tell you something... they are great bang for buck and once people have them, they keep them. I'm no longer recording so am parting with this to fund mixing gear.

Each channel uses 2 of JLM's discrete 99v opamps as a 2 stage gain path to provide 75dB of gain with ease. Big, fat but realistic vocals and acoustic instruments are done with ease. Some great mic combos with this preamp: Sennheisser 421 on bass drum or male vocals, Royer 121 on piano, guitar, Neumman U87 upright bass, Coles 4038 on a Fender, small diaphragm condenser mics such as a DPA 4006 on banjo or viola. Commonly described as a Neve pre on steroids, and far more adaptable than a Neve 1073 or an API 3124. A sleeper preamp, perhaps because Joe Malone doesn't put much $ into marketing and focuses resources on design instead.

Impedance range of 200 to 3k allow this pre to go from dark and slow to airy and fast tone wise. A center detent at Z is the best starting point.

Separate, external power supply, runs on a 48v SMPS that can run on 85vac to 250vac without switching. Power supply takes standard IEC power lead so you can plug into power anywhere in the world.

Feature for each channel
Balanced Neutrik Gold XLR in rear panel which is switched to 1meg Fet DI input when jack plugged in.
48v phantom power switch with red LED indicator for rack XLR in.
(All below features work for XLR and DI input.)
Phase switch.
20dB pad switch.
OEP/VTX Input transformer.
Variable Impedance 200ohm to 3k with centre detent at starting Z point.
Output trim pot with -5dB to 0dB range (with pot knob pulled out -90dB to 0dB range).
2 x JLM99v discrete opamp.
Huge JLM111DC output transformer.
Balanced Neutrik gold XLR out on rear panel .

You can easily swap the op-amps for John Hardy 990 or API 2520 op-amps if you want to experiment with different tones, though the JLMs are absolutely solid.
