FS: Neumann U64 - $1750 OBO

For sale is my precious Neumann U64, serial #9800. The U64 is a version of the KM64 that uses an RCA nuvistor-type tube instead of an AC701. Same capsule (same as the KM84), same output transformer as well. The mic is in very good/excellent condition with little wear to the body (though the badge is worn), the capsule is immaculate, and it's whisper quiet. Original box (still has the original "capsule cozy!"), original cable, new power supply. The guy who builds these supplies takes old Neumann/Gefell supplies, guts them, then builds a new supply in the old enclosure. I dig it; keeps the "vibe" factor.

As I only have one (it's been REALLY difficult finding another in similar condition), it's not getting as much use as some of my other paired-up mics. Killer on acoustic instruments, even better on hi-hat than a KM84 (!). I've even used it for mono jazz drum overhead and on snare (with the pad engaged, of course).

EDIT: a few more details. First, I whipped up a quick example of what this sounds like 12" from a Larrivee L-10. Please excuse my terrible playing!

Retro PowerStrip (no EQ or Comp), Apogee Rosetta 800 straight to PT. It's a very throaty guitar, and you'll hear that. ANother sample on another acoustic guitar can be found here:

Click on "Rock 5." This was a Breedlove through a Millennia. Definitely not me playing!

Second, in an effort to better describe the sound of this mic, I would say that it sounds a little less "scooped" in the midrange than a KM84. Also, this mic allegedly has a reputation for not having as full or rich a LF response as an 84 or its sister, the KM64. I would disagree. I have 4 KM84s and a KM86 and have compared directly. When within a few feet of an acoustic instrument, bass is rich and full without being boomy or thumpy. This mic also has a higher output than an 84.

Included in this sale is the microphone, the original box, the original DIN-to-Tuchel cable, the power supply, and an IEC mains lead (power cable). Nothing else that might show up in the picture is included!

I would PREFER to keep this sale local to the U.S., but feel free to contact me if you're an international buyer.

This mic is also listed on Reverb and eBay, where you can see plenty of pics:
