WTB: Alesis HD24XR or comparable...

Post by Snarl 12/8 » Thu Jun 04, 2020 10:16 pm

Is there anything comparable I should be looking at? How much worse are the non-HR ones anyway?

I want a hard disk recorder that's at least 8 tracks and functions stand-alone. I want it to sound good. Any sleeper units out there?

Thanks for looking...let me know if you're looking to un-acquire something.

I could point you to an HD24(non XR) for $450--but you could probably find one for around $400 if you work at it.

I still have my Tascam MX2424. With two caddy drives, cables (TRS), etc. (I can make a CD with their latest software MX Edit etc.)

If you want it, make me an offer I cannot refuse. ;)

I'd have to weigh it all to give you an approximate shipping price.

This does 24 bit 96k 12 channels, or 24 channels of 24 bit 48 or 44.1.

The MX2424 offer kinda kills me. I actually had one a while ago, but it only had TDIF i/o I had it paired with a Ramsa DA7 with TDIF and it was a kinda cool setup. When I decided to de-acquire it I couldn't give it away except to this one kid who didn't even use it. Possible resale value is an attractive part of an HD24XR, although I don't tend to get rid of things very often. The MX was a solid unit. Do you have any idea how the 3 units compare sonically? I'm imagining that the MX and the non-XR sound similar (aside from the resolution) and the XR is a notch better. But I've never heard the converters on any of them.

I've got a side line on an XR, let me see how that pans out and I'll get back to you on the MX.

I've used both, preferred the MX converters. This one has the analog 24 channel IO, and the ADAT digital IO as well.

Cheers.

If you need another opinion on the Tascam MX2424 you could PM this guy named Larry Crane. As I remember, he had one of those in his recording studio quite a while back.

I don't think I can cope with the SCSI limitations. Does anyone know what the biggest hard drive you can put in am MX2424 is? The manual mentions upgrading to 18 gigs, but I'm wondering if that's it. Also, does anyone know if they can be converted to take bigger IDE drives?

Thanks,
Carl Keil

I ahould point out that the HD24 has ADAT input and output channels, so you can connect an interface of your choice. Also you can explore convert the drives from IDE to SATA to get modern 1TB+ drives

My pleasure :) As soon as I saw it, I remembered this post so I’m happy for you! Great price! If I didn’t already have one, I would have bidded on it too
