HELP: how can i upload an avatar

went to my profile to add an avatar, but i see only a text window to enter a url for a link to a hosted avatar . . .
i would like to upload rather than link, but i see nowhere to submit my avatar file.
how do i get it into my profile?

sorry, the tomb doesn't allow for avatar hosting. you'll have to link it up

thanks for straightening that up for me.
it was just a bit confusing from the following paragraph found under "avatar control", since it seems to imply an ability to upload avatars.

"Displays a small graphic image below your details in posts. Only one image can be displayed at a time. The dimensions of the image are restricted to a maximum of 60 pixels wide, and 60 pixels high. Uploaded avatars have a file size limit of 6 KB, and must be less than or equal to the maximum dimensions. Remotely hosted avatars will be automatically scaled to fit these dimensions."
